Understanding Your Insurance Cover as a C2R Member

By Speedy, Membership Manager, Climb 2 Recovery

As climbers, we all accept a degree of personal responsibility when it comes to managing risk. An important part of that responsibility is understanding what insurance cover you have, when it applies, and where its limitations may be.

To help members better understand this, we've produced a comprehensive insurance guidance document that explains the different types of cover available through Climb 2 Recovery, Adventure Expertise and the BMC.

We strongly encourage all members to read the full document rather than relying on assumptions about what is or isn't covered.

The Key Things You Need to Know

Adventure Expertise Courses

If you're attending an Adventure Expertise-led Climb 2 Recovery course, you are insured through the arrangements in place for that course.

This means that while you're participating in a structured, instructor-led programme, appropriate insurance cover is already in place.

Club Climber Progression

As members gain experience and progress to Club Climber status, they become covered through the Climb 2 Recovery BMC club membership scheme.

This provides important benefits and protections for members as they continue their climbing journey and become more independent climbers.

Climbing in Your Own Time

One area that can sometimes cause confusion is independent climbing.

While BMC club insurance provides valuable cover, it is important that members understand its scope and limitations. The insurance provided through C2R's BMC affiliation may not necessarily meet every individual's needs, circumstances, or climbing ambitions.

If you're regularly climbing away from C2R activities, travelling for climbing, or undertaking activities with specific insurance requirements, you should carefully consider whether additional personal insurance would be appropriate for you.

Don't Make Assumptions

Insurance is a complex subject, and cover can vary depending on the activity being undertaken and the circumstances involved.

That's why we've created a detailed guide to help members understand:

  • What cover is available through Adventure Expertise courses

  • What cover is included through Climb 2 Recovery's BMC club membership

  • The limitations of club insurance

  • Situations where you may wish to consider additional personal insurance

  • Where to find further information and policy details

Read the Full Guide

Rather than relying on hearsay or assumptions, we encourage every member to take a few minutes to read the full insurance document and ensure they understand exactly what cover applies to them at each stage of their Climb 2 Recovery journey.

Your climbing, your responsibility, your informed choice.
