We Support the Recovery of Wounded, Injured and Sick Veterans Through Climbing 〰️
Our Story
Set up by wounded veterans for other wounded, injured and sick veterans and service personnel, Climb2Recovery is a charity that offers climbing courses to help with both physical and mental recovery. We aim to make the sport more accessible to both beginners and experienced climbers, whatever their current abilities.
Much more than that though, through climbing we want to build all-important support networks. Many of the veterans that climb with us have stayed on as part of our community, taking part in multiple courses, and the hope is that the friendships and contacts they make will lead to them finding lifelong climbing partners as well as peer mentoring and training opportunities.
Since 2016, we’ve created a whole range of courses and activities for the WIS community, from Alpine training in Chamonix to beginners’ sessions in the UK and sports climbing expeditions in Spain. Through our UK courses, veterans can also go on to develop a fulfilling career in climbing with the chance to qualify as rock climbing instructors themselves.
If you’re a WIS veteran yourself and would like to get involved, you’ll find information about our upcoming courses here on our website. We’d also love to hear from you, so please do get in touch.
If you’d like to support our work, please head to our JustGiving page where you can make a donation. You can also follow along with what we’re up to on Facebook.

The C2R Activity Programme:
C2R provides an exciting year-round programme of climbing and mountaineering that enables a variety of opportunities to get outdoors, make friends, learn skills, gain qualifications and paid work experience. Our impact is broad and far-reaching, greatly improving the fitness, well-being, social functioning, self-confidence and life outlook of our members, leaving them more likely to try and learn new things, encouraging them to test themselves in challenging and new situations, and greatly improving empathy and life at home. Ultimately, the C2R programme is:
Fun, enjoyable, and excellent for improving psychological health, emotional regulation, and physical health and fitness;
Builds confidence, resilience, and self-esteem;
Supports peer to peer mentoring and working in teams, to develop friendships, a broad and diverse support network, and which improves communication skills;
Allows members to overcome significant challenges, both individually and as part of a team;
All of which results in a regular and tremendous sense of achievement and enjoyment!
C2R is also the only veteran organisation offering formal climbing and mountaineering training and certification through fully sponsored nationally and internationally recognised qualifications. These opportunities create an alternative, new and exciting route back into employment for veterans who feel uncomfortable, overwhelmed, or exhausted in conventional employment. C2R has seen many of our members utilising the qualifications they gained through the programme moving into paid employment in the outdoor sector, getting involved with youth groups and voluntary work, and taking their family and friends into the outdoors, with an accompanying increase in independence, pride, mental health, and wellbeing.
