2024 Impact Summary & Report

Written by Jonnie, Grants and Impact Manager, Climb 2 Recovery

Every year, Climb 2 Recovery reflects on the difference our community is making in the lives of wounded, injured and sick veterans and serving personnel. While our annual Impact Summary provides a snapshot of key achievements, our full Impact Report tells the deeper story behind the numbers and demonstrates the lasting value of the Climb 2 Recovery approach.

The report highlights what can be achieved when people are given opportunities to challenge themselves, connect with others and take ownership of their own development. It showcases how climbing, mountaineering and shared outdoor experiences continue to support recovery, rehabilitation and personal growth across our community.

A Growing Community

In 2024, Climb 2 Recovery supported more than 115 active members and welcomed 30 new members into the community. Across the year, members took part in courses, expeditions and training opportunities designed to develop confidence, competence and resilience through real-world experience.

Over the last eight years, the organisation has grown into a trusted community supporting more than 175 veterans and service personnel from across the Armed Forces family. What continues to set C2R apart is not simply the activities we deliver, but the relationships, belonging and shared purpose that members find along the way.

Developing Skills and Building Confidence

During 2024, Climb 2 Recovery delivered 14 fully funded residential courses and supported 48 training and assessment courses. Activities ranged from Learn to Lead Climb programmes and multi-pitch climbing courses to scrambling, winter mountaineering, expedition trekking and advanced mountain skills training.

These opportunities are designed to do far more than teach technical skills. Every course provides a platform for participants to develop self-belief, make decisions, overcome challenges and gain confidence through achievement. Recovery is not taught in a classroom. It is experienced through action.

Creating Opportunities Beyond Recovery

The report also highlights how members have progressed into nationally recognised qualifications and leadership roles. During the year, members achieved certifications and training milestones including Mountain First Aid, Rock Climbing Instructor and Mountain Leader qualifications.

These achievements demonstrate the wider impact of the C2R model. For some members, qualifications represent personal accomplishment. For others, they open pathways into volunteering, leadership and employment within the outdoor sector. Every achievement helps restore confidence, capability and purpose.

Delivering Meaningful Impact

In 2024, Climb 2 Recovery delivered more than 1,143 individual training days, creating opportunities for challenge, growth and connection throughout the year. Importantly, this impact was achieved while maintaining exceptional value, delivering activities at an average cost of approximately £105 per participant per day.

The report reinforces a simple but powerful message: when people are given the right environment, meaningful challenge and supportive community, positive change can happen.

Looking Forward

The success highlighted throughout the Impact Report belongs to every member, volunteer, supporter, donor and partner who contributes to the Climb 2 Recovery community.

As we continue to grow, our mission remains unchanged: to support the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, injured and sick veterans and service personnel through adventure, community, responsibility and hope.

The full report showcases not only what we achieved during 2024, but why it matters. Behind every course, qualification and training day is a person taking another step forward on their journey.

Together, we continue to prove that recovery can happen through challenge, belonging and shared experience.
